This Is War
...This song.
This song is from a band called 30 Seconds to Mars which I'm not going to research and I won't pretend to care about. I might listen to some of the other stuff, but what interests me right now is a musical quote from this song used as the opening theme for Something Witty Entertainment's Sword Art Online Abridged. I wanted to hear the whole thing and found this little mind f**k that I will kindly pour my heart out to you about.

So This is Christmas was so much better.
This music video makes no sense and makes me think these guys don't really know what they're talking about and wanted an excuse to fire automatic weapons in a music video. Everything looks too clean. These guys aren't fighting a war, they're playing paint-ball with the geology department.
You do know that Nixon ended our occupation of Vietnam, right? Because even though he did lie about recording meetings, it was a really good and productive administration. I'd put LBJ as the liar if i was going for the Nam thing.
What I really don't get was the pyramid at the end. What was that? I know it's their logo thing, but what was actually happening there? You know what, I don't care. This is a stupid video made by stupid but attractive people, and as such, it doesn't deserve interpretation.
However, the song does.
Somebody has probably made the Einstein-like observation that this song is anti-war. This song isn't against war, it's hoping for peace. There is a difference. One is a negative reaction and the other one is a bit nicer. This song actually has something interesting. It calls for peace but at the same time says that there is "the moment to fight." And this is a very interesting and unique point. There have been some pretty worthwhile conflicts in history. World war II is probably the most worthwhile fight for anybody ever. Then again, there have been wars like Vietnam and arguably the war of 1812 that didn't need to happen at all.
I get what this is advocating for, more sensible conflict resolution in future, but it also understands why conflicts like this start in the first place. What his song asks us to do is to find a peaceful strategy, but fight if we need to. A noble goal, and one that I believe in.
The video still sucks though.
