Radioactive
Radioactive is one of the more popular songs by the band Imagine Dragons. This is the song that the film The Host was marketed with. The more frequent visitors to my site (both of you) will know that I hate that movie, yet this song is one of the few redeeming qualities the film had. This song rocks! This song is the reason I saw the thing in theaters! I love this song!... but the music video... well, let's take a look.
Yes, I know that wasn't the music video, but you need to listen to the song before you see the visuals that go with it in order for me to make my point.
The Song
I really like this song. God knows what it's about, but it sounds really cool. The lyrics imply some sort of sci-fi rebellion/apocalypse, which is probably why they picked it for The Host. I can also interpret it as an allegory for death because of the violent sounding lyrics and the calm part close to the end. Overall, the words just seem brutal. "Painted red to fit right in?" Good God dude!
The reason I really like this song is the music. This is the most prominent beat to a song I've heard since We Will Rock You. This thing is just exploding! The music practically overshadows the singing. The best comparison I can make is the Hallelujah Chorus, the singing is supporting the instrumental instead of this binary being the other way around. This is the reason I like Pink Floyd as much as I do, this is why I like this song.
Also, it has some synthetic stuff in there, but it doesn't take front seat. I really respect that in modern music, so just another reason for me to like this song.
